Simien Mountains National Park

About This Place

Simien Mountains National Park is a breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage site in northern Ethiopia, famously known as the "Roof of Africa" due to its towering peaks and deep, jagged precipices. This dramatic landscape was formed by millions of years of volcanic activity and erosion, resulting in massive plateaus and sharp spires that reach heights of over 4,500 meters at Ras Dashen. The park is a vital sanctuary for rare endemic wildlife found nowhere else on Earth, including the Walia ibex, the Gelada baboon, and the endangered Ethiopian wolf. Beyond its biological importance, the park is a world-class destination for trekkers who come to experience its stunning panoramic views and some of the most spectacular mountain scenery on the African continent.
