The Tiya megalithic site is a UNESCO World Heritage destination located in the Gurage Zone of Ethiopia, featuring a collection of ancient monolithic stelae. Dating back to between the 12th and 14th centuries, these 46 standing stones are part of a larger prehistoric burial complex that marks the remains of an ancient Ethiopian culture. Most of the stones are adorned with intricate engravings, including symbols of swords, human figures, and mysterious leaf-like patterns, which researchers believe represent the status or achievements of the warriors buried beneath them. Today, Tiya remains one of the most important archaeological sites in the Horn of Africa, offering a fascinating glimpse into the region's medieval funeral traditions and artistic craftsmanship.
