Lake Chamo is a stunning freshwater lake located in the southern Rift Valley, just south of Lake Abaya and the city of Arba Minch. It is world-renowned for its "Crocodile Market," a specific stretch of shoreline within Nechisar National Park where hundreds of massive Nile crocodiles—some of the largest in Africa—gather to sunbathe. Unlike the reddish waters of its neighbor, Lake Chamo is known for its clear, bluish-green hue and supports a thriving ecosystem filled with hippopotamuses and diverse water birds like African fish eagles and pelicans. The lake is also an essential economic resource for the local community, famous for producing enormous Nile perch and providing a spectacular destination for boat safaris and wildlife tourism.
